Irrigation Methods and Importance for Plants
The artificial application of water to land with the object of nourishing the growth of plants and for the purpose of producing large agricultural crops, fruits, vegetables and other tree is called irrigation.
Sources of Irrigation
Rain water, tube wells, lakes, lifting devices for lifting water fro river, tunnel dry on the base for storing water are some type of sources.
Importance of water for plants
- Water helps in germination of seeds.
- It keeps the plant cool in summer and warm in winter.
- Water makes the soil soft and helps the roots of plant to spread easily.
- Water in the field is the best check for controlling insects like white ant, termites.
- Water helps in transportation of nutrients from one part to another.
- Water increases the activity of bacteria and other organism in the soil which are useful.
- Plants food exists in soil in solid form. It dissolves in water and then roots of plants are able to absorb it.
